Some may hasten to call Toledo the Detroit of Ohio. While not as big as its neighbor just 40 miles north, Toledo is home to some direct automobile manufacturing as well as many companies that supply parts and technologies to the Big Three.
The Jeep was born in Toledo. It’s still manufactured here today at the Daimler-Chrysler plant. The Dana Corp. is a large parts supplier to the auto industry.
They don’t call Toledo The Glass City for nothin’. The city is home to Libbey Glass, which manufactures residential and commercial glassware. Also here is Owens-Illinois, a large maker of glass containers.
Colleges and health care facilities also are leading employers.
